2 Naugatuck Churches May Face Closure: Report

Low enrollment and declining donations are sparking talk about the possibility of two Catholic churches closing in Naugatuck.

NAUGATUCK, CT - Parishioners at St. Mary's and St. Hedwig are concerned their churches may face closure possibly sometime next year due to declining attendance and lower donations, the Republican-American reports.

An official told the Rep-Am's Paul Singley that both churches are "seriously" being considered for closure by the Archdiocese of Hartford. The Archdiocese is looking to close some churches in the area.

No decision is expected until sometime in the first quarter of 2017. Officials at both churches are trying to rally support to save both St. Mary's and St. Hedwig.
