All Salem School Students Sign Up for Library Cards
100% of the students that attend Salem School have signed up for a library card that they can use at Naugatuck's Whittemore Library.

NAUGATUCK - Salem Elementary School celebrated an impressive achievement on Friday when it was announced that 100% of their students now have their own library card.

Gina Kotsaftis (far right below) is Salem's reading teacher. She worked with the Howard Whittemore Memorial Library to ensure that every student in grades kindergarten through four signed up for a library card.

Librarians at the Whittemore Library provide a selection of books each month to Salem School for teachers to share with their students.

The Salem students are also engaged in a reading incentive program this year, Salem's Cheetah Readers. Since October of last year, they have read over 6,000 books and earned the reward of dunking their principal, Christine Murphy (seated below,) in a dunk tank this spring.
