Naugatuck Health Programs Could Receive Up To $50K A Year

The grants will support nonprofits working to improve access to health care, insurance and medical transportation.

NAUGATUCK, CT — Nonprofits working to improve health care access in Naugatuck could receive as much as $50,000 a year through a new grant opportunity.

Healthbridge Foundation of Greater Waterbury is accepting applications for its fall competitive grant round. Organizations can seek up to three years of funding, according to an announcement from the Connecticut Community Foundation.

The foundation is looking to support programs that help Naugatuck residents obtain health care and preventive services, enroll in or maintain health insurance and secure transportation to medical appointments.

Funding may also be used by programs that help residents facing financial hardship pay medical expenses such as copays, deductibles, coinsurance and other out-of-pocket costs.

Foundation officials said the grant program was developed after identifying local gaps involving insurance coverage, transportation, affordability and other services that connect people with care.

"We know the need is great," Healthbridge Board of Trustees Chair Ellen Carter said in the announcement.

Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21. Organizations can apply online here.

Healthbridge, established in 2019, is a supporting organization of the Connecticut Community Foundation. It serves Naugatuck and 12 other Greater Waterbury-area communities.

Questions about the grant program can be directed to Andrew Oravecz, the foundation's senior community health and strategy officer, at aoravecz@conncf.org or 203-753-1315.
