Waterbury Slaying Leads To Arrest Of City Woman: Police

WATERBURY, CT — A city woman is facing a murder charge in connection with the slaying of a man in an apartment on Cherry Avenue Monday, police said.

Sgt. Joseph Morais said police were summoned to 13 Cherry Ave. at 8:22 a.m. Monday for a report of an unresponsive male.

Officers found the victim lying on the floor and not breathing. Police said the victim sustained several serious injuries, and emergency medical personnel pronounced him deceased.

According to Morais, there were clear signs of a struggle inside the apartment.

Investigators identified Guadalupe Ojeda, 39, of Waterbury, as the primary suspect, police said.

According to police, Ojeda had minor, visible injuries to her face, and she was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Ojeda was charged on a warrant with murder. She was brought to Waterbury police headquarters for processing after her release from the hospital.

Ojeda appeared in Superior Court in Waterbury Tuesday morning, and she was being held on a $2 million bond.

Police did not release the victim's identity as of Tuesday afternoon.
