Approved Naugatuck Budget Would Not Increase Tax Rate

More than $5 million was utilized from fund balances or contingency accounts to keep the tax rate the same.

NAUGATUCK, CT — Naugatuck's legislative boards and commissions voted to approve a $127.1 million budget for fiscal 2020-21 which increases spending by nearly $2 million or a 1.5 percent hike, My Citizen's News reports.

The tax rate would remain unchanged at 47.25 mills. Officials are able to pull this off by using $5.35 million from contingency accounts, My Citizen's News reports.

About $1.1 million in spending cuts were approved as part of the budget process including a $100,000 reduction to the Board of Education budget. Overall schools receive a $1.7 million increase.
