Arrest Made In Waterbury Hit And Run Which Injured Pedestrian: PD

The accident happened Friday night, according to police.

WATERBURY, CT — A Waterbury man has been arrested following Friday night’s hit-and-run accident which injured a pedestrian, police said.

Sgt. Joseph Morais said Cristhian Vega, 28, of Waterbury, is charged with evading responsibility.

The accident happened March 6 around 7:47 p.m. in the vicinity of Meadow Street and West Main Street.

The victim, a 28-year-old Waterbury man, was rushed to a local area hospital. Police said the victim sustained “serious” injuries to his lower extremities, but his injuries were not life-threatening. The victim is in stable condition, police said.

The police department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit launched an investigation and were able to identify Vega as the suspect driver and took him into custody, according to police. Vega had been operating a white SUV when he struck the pedestrian and fled the scene, police said.

Vega was held over the weekend on a $30,000 bond, and he is due to be arraigned in Superior Court in Waterbury today.
