Assault Reported At Grocery Store Parking Lot: Naugatuck Police

One person involved is accused of being upset at how the victim parked and began to "kick and punch the victim's vehicle," police said.

NAUGATUCK, CT β€” A Naugatuck man, Zachary William Lance, 25, of Rubber Avenue, was released after posting a $50,000 bond after he is charged with an assault that occurred at the Stop & Shop parking lot at 727 Rubber Ave. on March 20, police said.

At 7:27 p.m. police responded to the store for an assault complaint. Police said Lance was leaving the store and he was involved in a confrontation with the victim.

"The accused was upset about how the victim had parked and started to kick and punch the victim's vehicle," Naugatuck Police said in a report of the incident. "The victim approached the accused to stop him from damaging his vehicle. The accused then pushed the victim onto the ground, punched the victim, and then left the area. The accused was with another person at the time and they both appeared to be intoxicated. When the accused was arrested the accused resisted and threatened officers."

Zachary William Lance is charged with second-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace and interfering with police. William Lance, 57, also of Rubber Avenue, is charged with sixth-degree larceny and interfering with police.

Police said William Lance, 57, had stolen a 30-pack of Budweiser beer from the store and that was unrelated to the incident in the parking lot.
