Audition Announcement: Beauty and the Beast at Thomaston Opera House

Michael Calabrese will direct the show with music direction by Trish O'Porto and choreography by Katherine Griffin.

Landmark Community Theatre will be holding auditions for the Disney’s, Beauty and the Beast, on Sunday, April 2nd and Monday, April 3rd at the Thomaston Opera House. Auditions will be on a first come, first served basis EXCEPT for those auditioning for the role of Chip or limited youth ensemble. That group of people will be seen from 6 pm to 7 pm by appointment ONLY both days. No appointments are required for adult roles. Adults will be seen from 7 pm to 9 pm both days. Michael Calabrese will direct the show with music direction by Trish O’Porto and choreography by Katherine Griffin. The show dates are July 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, 30 a total of 8 performances. Rehearsals will begin on Sunday, April 16th and continue to be held 2-3 times a week. Rehearsal days will be Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings.

Auditioners must bring sheet music with them and be prepared to sing 32 bars (about a minute) of a fully memorized musical theater song showcasing the style and vocal range of the character for which they are auditioning. Songs from BEAUTY AND THE BEAST will be allowed. Additional vocalizing may also be a part of the audition to determine vocal range and harmonizing skills. An accompanist will be provided; no recorded accompaniment is permitted. All people auditioning should be expected to dance at their audition. Please wear appropriate clothing and shoes you can move in. Minimum age to audition is 10 years old.

Plot Summary: Based on the Academy award-winning animated feature, this musical includes all the songs from the film and more. The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.

Character Breakdown:
● Belle – a young woman with an independent spirit and a love of reading who exudes natural beauty ● Beast – the cursed prince and master of the castle
● Maurice – Belle’s slightly addled genius inventor father
● Gaston – a rude, narcissistic hunter who assumes the world belongs to him
● Lefou – Gaston’s fawning friend, not too bright
● Les Filles De La Ville – a group of 3 of Gaston’s fanatical female admirers who energetically pursue him in the hopes of winning his heart
● Lumiere – a charming French valet who fancies himself a ladies man; becomes a candelabra ● Cogsworth – an officious, excitable, English major-domo; becomes a mantle clock
● Mrs. Potts – a sweet, kind-hearted head of the kitchen staff and mother to Chip; becomes a teapot ● Chip – (Age 10 – 12 years old) Mrs. Potts’s hopeful young son; becomes a teacup
● Madame De La Grande Bouche – a grand, larger-than-life opera singer; becomes a wardrobe ● Babette – a flirtatious maid; becomes a feather duster
● Monsieur D’arque – proprietor of the local insane asylum
