A high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and a plethora of pop culture references designed for a streaming medium.

Despite this unprecedented pandemic era, theatrical artists around the world continue producing great works for audiences to enjoy and learn from. In this union of theater and film, actors’ performances are live streamed from across the country and digitally blended into a unique online experience. Backyard Theater Ensemble and Monarch Theatrical are proud to present She Kills Monsters Virtual Realms by Qui Nguyen.

She Kills Monsters tells the story of Agnes Evans following the death of her teenage sister, Tilly. When Agnes finds Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, however, she stumbles into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was Tilly’s refuge. In this high-octane piece laden with homicidal fairies, nasty succubi, and pop culture references galore, acclaimed playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.

Due to the economic hardships associated with the pandemic, tickets will be complimentary for all patrons, but the hosting organizations kindly ask for any donations audience members can afford. A percentage of all donations will go towards costs associated with this production, and the remaining balance will be put towards a fully staged production when it is safe to return to theaters.

She Kills Monsters: Virtual Realms is directed by Rob MacPherson, with fight choreography by Rob Richnavsky and production design by Evan Seide. The production is produced by BTE’s Artistic Director Tina Parziale and stage managed by Daniel Pear. Actors stream from across the US from Connecticut to Colorado.
