Bear Spotted in Naugatuck; Police Ask Residents to Take Precaution
Residents are urged to call police and let them know if they see any other bears.
At about 9:20 a.m. the Naugatuck Police Department was made aware of a bear sighting in the area of Birch Lane on the west side of Naugatuck.
Officers responded to the area in an attempt to locate and track the animal and observed that it entered the wooded area near Deepwood Road.
A CT Alert message was sent out by Naugatuck Police to residents in that area to be aware of the roaming bear and to take precautions such as making certain that pets are indoors, that doors to residences are closed and to not attempt to approach the animal.

“We ask residence to please contact us with sighting information so that we can continue to update the public on its possible locations,” said Naugatuck Police Lt. Bryan Cammarata.
On Facebook, Cammarata wrote, “before some of you begin to “freak out”... please know that we are not going to shoot, taser, pepper spray, harass, question or interrogate party or pic-a-nic with or bother the bear in ANY way!! We simply want to make our residents aware of his presence in the area and to take precautions!
