Board of Education Elects Chairperson at Nov. Meeting [UPDATED]
No vice chair was elected yet; there was a tie so it is going to Borough board to break it. Board Secretary is Glenn Connan.
Naugatuck, CT - From BOE Policy #8120
The Board shall, not later than one month after the date on which newly elected members take office, elect from its own members a Chairperson, a Vice Chairperson and a Secretary.
If such officers are not chosen after one month from the date on which newly elected members take office because of a tie vote of the members, the town council, or, if there is not town council, the selectmen of the town shall choose such officers from the membership of the Board.

Officers shall hold their respective offices for two years and until their successors are duly elected.
Should a vacancy arise in an office of the Board during the term of a Board officer’s service, the members of the Board (including, if applicable, the member vacating a Board office) shall elect a successor to fill the office until the next regular election for Board officers.

The votes of each member cast in such election shall be reduced to writing and made available for public inspection within forty-eight hours, excluding Saturday, Sunday, or legal holidays, and shall also be recorded in the minutes of such meeting at which taken, which minutes shall be available for inspection at all reasonable times.

Jeffrey Litke was nominated by Jason Celozzi as BOE Chairperson for the biennium from November 2019-October 2021. The motion was seconded by Glenn Connan and the votes in favor were by board of education members Dorothy Neth-Kunin, Glenn Connan, James Scully, Jason Celozzi, Mayor N Warren Hess, Diana Malone, Ethel Grant, Jeff Litke, and Marilyn O'Donnell.
Official Duties of Chairperson from BOE Policy #8121
The Chairperson shall preside at all of the meetings of the Board. The Chairperson shall serve as the Board’s spokesperson. The Chairperson shall appoint the chair and members of all special committees. The Chairperson shall serve as ex officio member on all committees. The Chairperson shall perform such other duties as may be delegated to him/her by the Board.

UPDATE: No vice chair was elected yet because there was a tie between Dorothy Neth-Kunin and Jason Celozzi. The matter is going to the Borough board to break the tie. Glenn Connan was elected secretary of the Board at the regular meeting.

The Motion to appoint Gianni Perugini to the position of Director of Athletics, Activities, PE/Health and Wellness beginning January 2, 2020 was approved unanimously.
The Motion to appoint Michelle Russell as Interim Dean at Naugatuck High School through the end of the 2019-2020 school year was approved unanimously by the Board.
November Student Report:
● DECA’s Annual Crossing the Line Assembly will take place on November 19th.
● Adulting Day took place on October 16th for NHS Seniors.
● Parent - Teacher conferences were held on October 16th, 17th and 18th and were very
successful.
● PSAT’s were held on October 16th for Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior Students.
Naugatuck Non-Certified Employee Union (NNCEU) Contract was approved unanimously. A Motion to approve the 2019-2020 Alliance Grant in the amount of $2,016,135 was approved.
Proposed Revisions to Policy #6120-School Day
A Motion to approve a donation in the amount of $1,000 from Domino's Pizza for the purchase of new playground equipment at Hop Brook Elementary School was approved.
The Motion to approve revisions to Policy #5800R, Wellness: Concept, Goals and Roles in Community Relations as proposed was approved. Motion to approve revisions to Policy #6430, Publications, as proposed was approved. Motion to approve revisions to Policy #6750, Ability to Achieve Advanced Placement in College, as proposed was approved.
Proposed New Policy Regarding Physical Activity, Undirected Play and Student Discipline was approved, but no details were included.
Motion to approve New Policy, Administrative Regulations and Form Regarding Sunscreen Application in School, as proposed was approved.
The board regularly meets at 7 p.m. on the 2nd Thursday of the month in the Board Chambers of Central Office, at 497 Rubber Avenue in Naugatuck. The entrance to the parking lot is just before the entrance to Naugatuck High School. The entrance to Central Office is to the right of the high school building if you are facing it from the street.
