Brief Cameo Productions to present The Last Five Years
New musical experience coming to the Ivoryton Playhouse
Ivoryton, CT– Brief Cameo Productions is proud to announce its second production: The Last Five Years, an emotionally provocative instrumental that tells the story of two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years. Written by Jason Robert Brown, this Drama Desk winner was named one of Time Magazine’s ten best shows in 2001. The show currently seeking sponsorships to assist in the production. The decision to move forward with the production of The Last Five Years, comes during a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically altered everyday life. As Connecticut continues to reopen, special care is being paid to how the pandemic has dramatically altered the arts community.
“We were overwhelmed by the community’s response to our January 2020 production of Ragtime, which was intended to be a one-time only event, that we simply had to plan future productions. The Last Five Years, aside from being a favorite piece of our production team, lends itself to being staged during the unconventional times we find ourselves in,” said Jim Clark, Founder and Producer at Brief Cameo Productions. “The show features a 2-person cast, and its unique structure provides for the opportunity for a socially-distanced staging without compromising the drama of the music and story. The size of the orchestra and the instruments used also allows for band members to perform masked and with appropriate distance between them.”
The Last Five Years will run on January 9th, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. and January 10th, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets will be $25, and can be purchased via the company's website - BRIEF CAMEO PRODUCTIONS. Due to COVID-19 precautions, tickets will be by advance sale only.
“The Last Five Years has been a longtime favorite of mine. It’s a show that I return to time and time again; and each time I listen to Jason Robert Brown’s songs, I find new depth and meaning to the characters’ words and motives,” said Director Alan Piotrowicz. “Many describe the show as about a relationship, but to me it is equally about the individuals, each struggling in their own way with success, connection, and fulfillment (or the lack thereof). In a year that has tried so many of us, it feels appropriate to tackle a show that examines not only our relationships but also the benefit of reflection and hindsight."
