The department, which is celebrating the 50th anniversary of theater at the college, is having quite a busy re-emergence from Covid.

WATERBURY - Last week, there were two special events at Naugatuck Valley Community College in Waterbury in conjunction with the weekend performances of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” Director Sasha Bratt told me his department, which is celebrating the 50th anniversary of theater at the college, “is having quite a busy re-emergence from Covid.”

At the Sunday matinee, the Playbox Theater was renamed in honor of the program’s founder Dr. Frederick Ricci. There was also a secret reception for Bill Cone, the program’s outstanding set designer and adjunct professor for the last 40 years, who will soon be retiring. Cone, who is a native of Waterbury, was presented with a Mayoral Proclamation in honor of his retirement and his contributions to the theater program.
