Join the Naugatuck Historical Society at this year’s Harvest Moon Festival, hosted by Troop 102 Scouts BSA! This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about our town’s rich history, connect with others in the community, and support the museum.
At our booth, you will find:
<ul><li>Information about the Naugatuck Historical Society and our upcoming events</li><li>A selection of unique items for sale, including T-shirts, crewnecks, books, crocheted greyhounds, and more </li><li>Volunteers who are excited to meet you, chat, and hear your stories and family memories</li></ul>
We will also be available to assist you in purchasing tickets for our Lantern Tours (online purchase only) and tickets for our Annual Dinner.

Naugatuck Youth Services is excited to celebrate 2026 and our amazing youth &amp; volunteers at Keep Being Awesome: Building Tomorrow Together!
Join us for a delicious brunch at the Crystal Room in Naugatuck. Your ticket includes a brunch buffet, mimosa bar, and musical entertainment! There will also be raffles and a cash bar available.
Tickets are $55 each. The event is April 19, 2026, from 11am-2pm. Sponsorships for businesses and individuals are available! Every attendee and sponsor is helping young people in Naugatuck build resilience and become awesome adults!

As part of the Naugatuck History Museum’s America 250 program series, we continue to explore the people and experiences that shaped our early nation. These programs are free to attend and open to all, offering our community a chance to reflect on the complexity and humanity within our shared past.
Our next program, Revolutionary Portraits: Minutemen, Patriots and Tories, is presented by <a href="https://www.southbury-ct.org/content/20558/20713/22804.aspx" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">John Dwyer</a>, Town Historian of Southbury, Connecticut. This talk examines the lives of individuals in the Naugatuck Valley who were charged as Loyalists during the American Revolution. John highlights how these accusations affected families, livelihoods, and reputations, revealing the personal struggles that unfolded behind the broader conflict for independence.
John brings a deep passion for local history, shaped by his family’s arrival in Southbury in 1984 to live in his wife Lynn’s ancestral home. Their children became the eighth generation of descendants to live there, inspiring his study of regional history and preservation. A retired Food Scientist and former Technical Sales Manager, John has devoted much of his time to genealogy, military reenacting, restoration work, and the study of nineteenth century American music.
He has contributed to many preservation efforts, including projects involving Southbury’s historic architecture and early industrial sites. His restoration of the Candee Wheeler House and barns earned a Merit Award from the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation and was featured on HGTV. He serves on the Historic Buildings Commission and actively supports the Southbury Historical Society.

Traveling Trivia at La Casita Mexican Restaurant and Cantina April 20, 2026, at 6 PM 9 Church Street, Naugatuck, Connecticut
Join us for Traveling Trivia at La Casita Mexican Restaurant and Cantina for an evening that brings together fun, community, and local history. Trivia questions will focus on Naugatuck history, America 250 themed Americana, and a surprise category unique to this stop, with plenty of laughter and a few prizes along the way.
This long-standing event is made possible each year through the dedication of board member and longtime volunteer Maureen Sitar. Her continued commitment keeps this tradition strong and brings people together from across town.
The event is free and open to the public. You are welcome to arrive with a team or join one when you get there. It is a wonderful way to support a local restaurant while enjoying a relaxed and welcoming evening out.

Starting April 21 at 7 a.m., Spotty Dog Rescue is accepting donations as part of the 2026 Give Local Greater Waterbury &amp; Litchfield Hills!
Hosted but the Connecticut Community Health Foundation and sponsored by the Ion Bank Foundation, Give Local is a 36-hour online campaign from April 21 at 7 a.m. until April 22 at 7 p.m. Now in its 14th year, Give Local unites donors, businesses, and local charities to provide much-needed support for our community. Celebrate the causes that matter most to you - and if rescuing dogs is what you care about, Spotty Dog Rescue appreciates your donations during this campaign!
Since 2012, the all-volunteer Spotty Dog Rescue has worked to provide safe harbor, medical care and love for adoptable dogs that have been abused, abandoned and neglected until they are placed into loving, responsible permanent homes. Nearly 1,000 dogs have benefited from this work during that time, having come to the rescue from both local shelters and far-flung places like the Grand Cayman Islands, Turks &amp; Caicos, and St. Thomas, VI. Your donations cover medical care (including medications), food, collars, bedding, and other expenses that directly benefit the dogs rescued.

Give Local 2026 Campaign
For thirty-six hours, your gift will help keep Naugatuck’s history alive, accessible, and meaningful for our community.
During Give Local 2026, the Naugatuck Historical Society is raising funds to support the ongoing work that makes everything we do possible. As a fully volunteer run organization, this work is powered entirely by individuals who give their time because they believe these stories matter.
In recent years, we have expanded our exhibits, increased programming, and taken on new projects as part of the America 250 initiative. Behind the scenes, this means hours of research, writing, planning, organizing, and hands on work each week. From caring for collections and designing exhibits to hosting events and maintaining the museum, every part of this effort is carried by volunteers.
We continue to grow because we believe preserving and sharing Naugatuck’s history is important for our community. Your support helps make this level of work sustainable by providing the resources, materials, and tools needed to keep moving forward.
As we commemorate America 250, your gift helps ensure that local stories remain part of the broader American narrative, connecting past and present through the people and experiences that shaped our community.
