CCS Shares the Final Story in 50th Anniversary Series

She Just Keeps Coming Back

Final in the 50th Anniversary Story Series

A Message from the Director:

One of the great joys of working in education is the “music” of children engaging in learning. With schools closed due to COVID-19, CCS as we know it is eerily silent. Nonetheless, the rhythm and sound of learning continues, as our teachers and students turn to digital tools and virtual platforms.
Challenging and unfamiliar, the resiliency of the CCS community during this unnerving time is awe-inspiring. In light of the pandemic, CCS is preparing for a future where the ways we engage, the supplies we use, and the supports we need are different. As we have for more than 50 years, Children’s Community School will rely on the support and generosity to navigate the “new normal.” We thank you in advance, and know that we cannot do it without you.

#50 It seems appropriate to close the series with this story from an alumna, and at least one answer about what happens to our students after they leave CCS.

When she finished 5th grade at CCS, Arreyion was chosen by Washington Montessori School to attend middle school there on a full scholarship with transportation. For high school, she attended Sacred Heart High and volunteered at CCS as much as her schedule would allow. She served as a tour guide for the SHS reunion that was part of the CCS 50th Anniversary celebration.
We’re still in contact with Arreyion and many of our dreams (and hers) have come true.
She is working on a double major in psychology and early childhood education at Stonehill College in Massachusetts. She had to complete this semester working from home after spring break when colleges closed their doors due to Covid-19. She was hoping to volunteer at our Summer Bridges program, as she has done now for the last several years, and is waiting for further guidance on our plans. In the meantime, she’s still in touch with friends from all of her alma maters.

This was an ad in the 2012 Annual Dinner program book and a poster made from the same photograph is prominently displayed in the school office.

We are fortunate that she always thinks of CCS when it comes to volunteering and giving back to the community. Could we be so lucky as to have her become part of the staff when she completes her degree? It would be our honor.
