HAMDEN, CT – George Sprengelmeyer of Cheshire, chair of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts and associate professor and director of music at Quinnipiac University, will perform a classical guitar recital at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the Center for Theatre Arts at Quinnipiac, 515 Sherman Avenue.

The concert will feature music from the Baroque era, Irish Folk songs and Spanish music along with works by Jimi Hendrix and Django Reinhardt. It is the first concert of the new Quinnipiac Blackbox Music Series, hosted by the music department.

Sprengelmeyer is a unique blend of classical guitarist, teacher and scholar. In 2003, he was awarded the doctor of musical arts degree in guitar performance from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, becoming only the second individual in the history of the nation’s oldest music conservatory to earn this degree. He has performed at the Peabody Conservatory, the Hartt School, the Connecticut, Northeastern Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Classical Guitar Societies, and in Scotland and Ireland. In 2015, he completed a scholarly arrangement of the music of Turlough O’Carolan and made a recording of his music called “Farewell to Music.”
