The concert is presented in partnership with Central Connecticut State University's Polish and Polish-American Studies.

Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra to perform works from three celebrated composers of the Second Polish Renaissance on March 5

NEW BRITAIN, CT - The Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra will perform the works of three celebrated composers from the Second Polish Renaissance on Friday, March 5, at 7:30 p.m. EST. The concert, to be held at the Trinity-On-Main Arts Center, 69 Main Street in New Britain, Connecticut, and broadcast live on Facebook, is presented in partnership with Connecticut State University’s Polish and Polish-American Studies Program.

“We are pleased to partner with Central Connecticut State University's Polish and Polish-America Studies to present this concert celebrating the work of Polish composers,” said Adrian Sylveen, Artistic Director of the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra. “The Polish Rebirth (or the ‘Second Polish Renaissance) was a major cultural achievement for the nation. With the country’s new independence came opportunity. There was a tremendous creative movement in the arts, especially in music. This concert pays homage to the significant achievements of Polish composers. As the Eastern European repertoire is an integral part of the Orchestra’s mission, it is very close to my heart.”

The March 5 concert will feature Mieczysław Karłowicz's “Serenade for Strings, Op. 2”; Karol Szymanowski's “String Symphony-String Quartet No.2, Op.56”, arranged for the string orchestra; and young contemporary composer Jakub Kowalewski's “Cantabile for Strings”.
Central Connecticut State University’s Polish Studies Program, inaugurated in 1997, has served students and the broader Central Connecticut community by interpreting and offering perspectives on historic developments that reshaped global politics and human rights during the fourth quarter of the 20th century. The program offers courses in history, politics, culture, literature, language, and on the Polish-American ethnic community and regularly sponsors lectures, cultural events, exhibitions, recitals and concerts, and literary evenings.

Limited in-person tickets are available for purchase at a suggested donation of $25. Guests are asked to wear masks, and social distancing protocols will be in place. The concert will also be broadcast live on the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra’s Facebook page.
