We The People: American Immigrant Stories in Music is a two year series of 5 concerts in 2022 and 2023 that will introduce audiences to the rich and diverse cultural threads woven by America’s immigrants into the fabric of 20th and 21st-century American music. Each concert performed by the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra (CVO) will feature immigrant composers and/or musicians, whose music reflects inspiration from a distinct culture or group of cultures. Each concert will include written and/or spoken word pieces by writers who are themselves immigrants from the culture(s) being highlighted. The series will include compositions and performers from the following regions or cultures: Arabic,South America, Italy, Eastern Europe, Africa. Each concert will be performed in New Britain and Hartford, and include a workshop or demonstration for young people.
