CT Attorney/HR Executive to Celebrate High Office in AKA Sorority
Connecticut Attorney/HR Executive to Celebrate Installation to Highest Elected Regional Office in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority

New Haven, CT – Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® (AKA), Theta Epsilon Omega Chapter is excited to announce the “Elevating F.I.R.S.T. Inaugural Celebration” of AKA’s 35th North Atlantic Regional Director Elicia Pegues Spearman on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at 2:00 pm, at Quinnipiac University. Mrs. Spearman was installed as the leader of the North Atlantic Region (NAR) on July 14, 2022, at Alpha Kappa Alpha’s 70th Boule International Conference in Orlando, Fl.
Mrs. Spearman, a Hamden native and Cheshire resident, was elected by sorority members in the North Atlantic Region and made history because she is the first Regional Director from Connecticut and the first attorney to hold the position. She continues the legacy of family AKA membership begun by her mother, Mrs. Cheryl Pegues, a Hamden resident and a member of the sorority for more than 60 years. Mrs. Spearman, a graduate of the Case Western Reserve School of Law and Wellesley College, serves as General Counsel and Vice President for Human Resources at Quinnipiac University. She was formerly employed as the Chief Human Resources Officer for General Dynamics Electric Boat and also has served in executive leadership capacities at Hubbell, Incorporated and Aetna.
AKA members, family, friends. and local dignitaries will gather at the Inaugural Celebration at Quinnipiac’s York Hill Campus as Mrs. Spearman launches the “F.I.R.S.T. Administration,” under the mantra of Fellowship, Innovation, Respect, Service, Thrive. She will guide the implementation of initiatives of Alpha Kappa Alpha International President & CEO Danette Anthony Reed.

Administration and am looking forward to working with my sorority sisters and community partners to deliver valuable service and top-notch programming to youth, families, and individuals in Connecticut and across the North Atlantic Region,” said Mrs. Spearman. “I thank my home chapter, Theta Epsilon Omega, and Quinnipiac University for their unwavering support.”

The North Atlantic Region is the birthplace of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, an international service organization founded at Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1908. It is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-educated women and has more than 320,000 initiated members in graduate and undergraduate chapters in 12 countries. The Region comprises 155 chapters throughout Connecticut, Washington, D.C., Maryland, Delaware, Eastern Pennsylvania, Eastern New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire.
