CT Man Sentenced In Drowning Death Of Toddler

The man was babysitting a child who drank from his alcoholic beverage and later died from drowning in a bathtub, police said.

TORRINGTON, CT — A Torrington man was sentenced to 18 years in prison suspended after serving 10 years after a child drowned while in his care.

Alex Ciccarelli-Rosa pleaded under the Alford Doctrine to second-degree manslaughter and risk of injury to a child, according to News 12. The plea means he doesn't admit guilt, but admits were the case to go to trial he'd be convicted based on the evidence.

Evan Standish, a 15-month-old toddler was left in the care of Ciccarelli-Rosa June 6, 2017. He told police he made an alcoholic beverage for himself and that he later found the boy drinking from it.

He then put Evan in a bathtub where he drowned, police said, according to the Register-Citizen.
