CT State Community College Sees Enrollment Growth for Spring 2025 Semester

Connecticut State Community College (CT State) announced a six percent increase in enrollment for the spring 2025 semester, surpassing average community college increases nationally.

With 34,399 credit students enrolled, it is the highest year-over-year headcount growth by percentage for spring or any term in 15 years.

The spring enrollment increase follows a four percent increase in enrollment for the fall 2024 semester, which marked the first year-over-year growth for CT State since fall 2012.

“We are thrilled to see more students choosing CT State as their pathway to academic and career success,” said CT State President O. John Maduko, M.D. “This enrollment growth demonstrates our unwavering commitment to accessibility and student success through initiatives like free tuition and comprehensive support services. By removing barriers to higher education, we are empowering more individuals to achieve their goals and contribute to a stronger, more skilled workforce.”

Enrollment in certificate programs rose by 20 percent compared to spring 2024. Other notable areas of growth have included adult learners over age 25, with a 12 percent enrollment gain, and a 16 percent uptick in students transferring into CT State. The student population has also become more diverse, with an 11 percent increase in students identifying as Hispanic/Latine and a nine percent rise in Black students. High school students taking classes on campus increased 25 percent.

Connecticut’s free tuition program, which offers free community college tuition for eligible Connecticut residents, has contributed to this growth by increasing access to higher education. More than 50 percent of CT State students are expected to benefit from the program this spring. Eligibility is not income based, but begins with completing the FAFSA.
