NAUGATUCK, CT β€” A Naugatuck man accused of forcing his child to eat his own feces was arrested earlier this month as part of an investigation into a "horrific" child abuse case, according to police.

In a news release, police said the arrest stemmed from an investigation that began in October 2020.

Kevin Grant, 33, of Naugatuck, is currently awaiting trial for this original case, however a recently submitted additional arrest warrant led to more charges after police learned of further allegations related to the case in May.

According to police, the affidavit details "numerous horrific instances" where Grant's children, whose ages range from 5 to 11, were "abused or made to witness their sibling's abuse."

In once instance, Grant is accused of beating the children with a belt to the point where they could not walk, police said.

In another instance detailed in the affidavit, a child was put in a closet as a form of punishment. When the child had to use the bathroom, he was given a box to use as a bathroom, police said.

"The juvenile victim was then forced by [Grant] to defecate in the box while locked in the closet and was then made to eat his feces out of the box while his siblings were forced to watch," police said in a news release.

The affidavit also described instances where the children were given a bat with thumb tacks on it and forced to hit one another. There were also reports of Grant putting firecrackers in one of the children's pants and watching as they set off, according to police.

Grant was arrested Aug. 10 at Waterbury Superior Court. He was charged with reckless endangerment, risk of injury to a child and intentional cruelty to persons.

Grant was released on a $50,000 bond and appeared in court the following day. He is currently awaiting trial for charges related to the original 2020 investigation, police said.
