Developers Interested In Current Recycling Center Property

NAUGATUCK, CT — The Planning and Zoning Board has scheduled a public hearing for 6:10 p.m. on Feb. 19, concerning the Borough's request to move its Recycling Center to 0 Andrew Avenue in an effort to develop its current location for economic development purposes.

Wayne Zirolli, Borough Engineer explained this application is coming before the commission due to interest in the current site of the Recycling Center located on the corner of Rubber Avenue and Andrew Avenue.

The administration’s goal is to encourage and foster economic development therefore vacate municipal parcels along Rubber Avenue such as the DPW, recycling center, parks department to make them available for economic development, officials said, via meeting minutes.

It will take officials some time to prepare the new recycling center site at the end of School Street, so a temporary site is needed for the recycling center to allow availability to the current site for development. Some grading will be needed for the refuge bins but most is temporary and should not be hard to move on and off site.

There has been some interest shown recently in the Risdon property as well, but in general, there has been more interest in Rubber Avenue recently from developers so things are ever changing, officials said.
