Dr Bailey Named Director of Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine

Dr. Mary Bailey named director of Quinnipiac University's Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine, chair of the university's rehabilitation.

NORTH HAVEN, CT– Dr. Mary Bailey has been named director of Quinnipiac University’s Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine and chair of the university’s rehabilitation medicine department.

Bailey is the regional medical director for rehabilitation and multiple sclerosis at Trinity Health Of New England. She will be responsible for Quinnipiac’s and Trinity Health Of New England’s efforts in multiple sclerosis research and student exchange collaborations with the University of Oxford and the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

"It is with great pride and humility that I accept the position of director of Quinnipiac University’s Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine and chair of the university’s rehabilitation medicine department,” Bailey said. “Together, with the Quinnipiac students, faculty and Trinity Health Of New England team, we will work to further advance education within this field. Most importantly, we will work together to better the lives of our patients and their loved ones."

Bailey is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She joined Trinity Health Of New England’s Mandell Multiple Sclerosis Center in May 2016. Bailey graduated from the Yale University School of Medicine and completed a residency in neurology, and a fellowship in multiple sclerosis and neuroimmunology at Yale New Haven Hospital. She also holds an undergraduate degree in mathematics from Georgetown University.

“Dr. Bailey will play an important role in bringing together the expertise that exists at Quinnipiac University related to rehabilitation medicine,” said Bruce Koeppen, dean of Quinnipiac’s Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine. “In her role as director of the Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine, she will help expand and enhance learning and research opportunities for our students. I am very pleased to have her as part of the School of Medicine’s leadership team.”

Bailey started her career on faculty at the Yale School of Medicine, where she focused on multiple sclerosis and other neuroimmunological diseases. While at Yale, she also served as the MS fellowship director. She subsequently established a new MS fellowship at the Mandell MS Center upon her transition there and remains committed to medical education.

Bailey has authored and co-authored peer-reviewed articles and other publications about MS and has been a principal investigator in multiple clinical trials. She is passionate about educating patients, their families and caregivers about MS, the disease process and symptomatic management.

Quinnipiac’s Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine affords interprofessional teams the opportunity to devote themselves to the study and practice of rehabilitation medicine and the care of those afflicted with degenerative diseases.
