DUI Driver Almost Hits 1 Naugatuck Police Officer, Then Hits Police Cruiser: Police

Naugatuck police say the accused, who was charged on an arrest warrant, almost hit a police officer who was directing traffic.

Naugatuck, CT - An allegedly intoxicated driver almost struck a borough police officer directing traffic and then ended up striking a police cruiser, police said in a news release.

Police said Joshua C. Thomas, 26, of Guernsey Lane in New Milford, was arrested on a warrant on July 16 for an incident that occurred on June 16.

Police said Thomas was driving erratically on Cherry Street and almost struck the officer, Carl Schaaf, who was directing traffic.

Thomas' vehicle then ran into a police car driven by Officer John Julian on Cherry Street, police said.

Thomas is charged with DUI, reckless driving, evading responsibility, second-degree reckless endangerment, and failure to obey a police officer's signal.
