DUI Driver Struck Pedestrian, Left Scene: Naugatuck Police

The accused was released on a $5,000 bond.

NAUGATUCK, CT β€” A Naugatuck man, Raimundo Donascimento, 37, of Burritt Place is accused of driving while under the influence at the time of hitting a pedestrian and then leaving the scene, police said.

At 7:41 p.m. on Aug. 27, police responded to an "evading motor vehicle accident with injuries that involved a pedestrian in the area of Elm Street and Spencer Street," police said. Officers were informed that the accused had fled the scene and he was later located, police said.

Through the officers’ investigation the accused was found to be driving a motor vehicle
under the influence of alcohol and or drugs and leaving the scene, police said.

Donascimento was also charged with assault for striking a pedestrian with his motor vehicle while recklessly driving, police said. He is charged with second-degree assault, evading responsibility, reckless driving and illegally operating a motor vehicle while under the influence.

The accused was arrested and later released on a $5,000 bond.
