DUI Naugatuck Man Assaults Victim At Local Bar: Police

When the accused drove away, police say, his car struck the building.

NAUGATUCK, CT β€” A Naugatuck man is accused of assaulting someone inside a local bar and then driving away from the scene while under the influence, police said.

On Dec. 7 at 11:46 p.m. police responded to Riddles Cafe, North Main Street, for an assault, police said. Leigh R. Oliveira, 27, of Bluebird Drive, was involved in a physical altercation with another patron, police said.

When Oliveira attempted to drive away, his vehicle struck the building, police said. During
the investigation it was determined the accused was operating under the influence of alcohol, police said. He is charged with third-degree assault, illegally operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, disorderly conduct, and first-degree criminal trespass.

He was released on a $2,500 surety bond.
