DUI Naugatuck Man Drives In Reverse Over Bridge: Police
The vehicle's front end was heavily damaged due to an evading motor vehicle accident, police said.
NAUGATUCK, CT β A Naugatuck man is accused of driving while under the influence as he drove his car in reverse over a local bridge, police said. On June 4 at 7:34 a.m. police stopped a motor vehicle in the area of Salem Bridge and Cherry Street.
Through the officers investigation Joseph Coppola, 42, was found to be operating a motor vehicle in a reckless manner by driving his vehicle in reverse over the bridge, police said.
The vehicle's front end was heavily damaged due to an evading motor vehicle accident that occurred at the South Main Street Mobil Gas Station involving the accused, police said.

It was also determined that the accused was operating under the influence of alcohol and carrying a weapon in a motor vehicle, police said.
Coppola is charged with illegally operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, interfering with an officer, illegal possession of weapon in motor vehicle, reckless driving, and evading responsibility. He was given a $7,500 bond.
