Ellen Murray Officially Makes History in Naugatuck

Murray has agreed to terms as the Fire Department's new chief.

NAUGATUCK, CT - It’s official, Ellen Murray has in fact made history as she and the Borough have agreed to a four-year contract making her the Fire Department’s first female chief, Citizen’s News reports.

Murray has been serving as the interim chief since August 2015 and her new contract will pay her a salary of $97,900 this year followed by $99,425 in the second year, My Citizen’s News reports.

She’ll also receive a $5,000 stipend as the department’s training officer and a $1,300 uniform allowance. She was the only candidate for the position.

The fire union on social media wrote, “Naugatuck Firefighters Local 1219, would like to congratulate Deputy Chief Ellen Murray on her promotion to Fire Chief. We wish you all the best in your career as Chief and look forward to working with you moving forward.”
