Firefighter to be Honored with Annual Franklin Johnson Sr. Citizenship Award in Naugatuck

The award is presented annually to someone who is actively involved in the community.

John DeBisschop III, a lieutenant at the Naugatuck Fire Department and member of Post No. 17, will be honored with the annual Franklin Johnson Sr. Citizenship Award, the Republican-American reports.

He will be honored at a breakfast and awards ceremony on Nov. 13 at 8:30 a.m. at Jesse Camille’s Restaurant. Tickets for the event will be $25 and can be purchased by contacting Mayor’s Aide Ed Carter at 203-720-7208 or by emailing him. All proceeds will benefit Post No. 17.

DeBisschop, a Navy veteran is a revered community leader. According to the paper, he is chairman of the Naugatuck Veterans Council and chairman of Post No. 17’s Americanism and Children and Youth Committees. He was also named Naugatuck’s firefighter of the year in 2013.

DeBisschop volunteers with children’s scout groups and is a member of the National Ski Patrol at Mount Southington Ski Area.

According to the paper, the award is presented to someone who exemplifies what it means to be a good citizen.
