Firefighters Respond To 2 Building Fires In Naugatuck: FD

Crews responded to two building fires in less than 24 hours, as well as a brush fire, according to Naugatuck fire officials.

NAUGATUCK, CT β€” Firefighters recently responded to two building fires in less than 24 hours, as well as a brush fire, according to Naugatuck fire officials.

In a Facebook post Friday, fire officials said crews first assisted Naugatuck police with a "possible hazardous materials incident" on Hunters Mountain. No chemicals were involved, officials noted.

Crews then responded to a brush fire on Candee Road caused by embers from a campfire. The fire burned less than one acre on a steep hill, fire officials said.

While extinguishing the Candee Road blaze, a structure fire was reported at a condominium on Wooster Street, officials said.

With the assistance of firefighters from Beacon Falls and Waterbury, crews rescued a man from the basement of the condo unit. He was later taken to a hospital by Naugatuck EMS, according to fire officials.

Two condo units were damaged by the fire, the cause of which is under investigation, fire officials said.

Less than 24 hours later on Saturday, Naugatuck firefighters extinguished a second building fire on Miller Drive. The blaze caused heavy smoke and fire, however no injuries were reported, fire officials said.
