ID Made in Fatal Naugatuck Train Station Accident

The man who died lived in Wolcott.

Update 3 p.m. Wednesday

Robert Hughes, 39, of Wolcott was, fatally struck by a train Tuesday evening, the Waterbury Republican-American reported Wednesday.

Hughes was allegedly sitting on the tracks when the train travelling 40 miles per hour came around the curve and struck him, reporter Paul Singley reports. The train was about 800 feet from the Naugatuck Train Station.

Metro North spokesman Aaron Donovan has confirmed the pedestrian who was struck by a train is dead. Donovan said the victim is a 39-year-old white male. They have not yet released his identity.

Donovan said there is no train service Tuesday evening and all trains through 12:10 a.m. have been replaced with buses. The Metro North spokesman also stated commuter service Wednesday morning β€œmost likely will not be impacted.”

Lt. Bryan Cammarata Administrative Lieutenant of the Naugatuck Police Department informed Patch that on Tuesday, Aug. 26 at approximately 6:57 p.m., a pedestrian was struck by a train.

Naugatuck Police said the pedestrian was struck by a train on the train tracks located near the overpass south of Maple Street. Emergency units are on the scene and MTA Police are investigating the incident.

The extent of the pedestrian’s injuries are unknown at this time.
