NAUGATUCK, CT — An illegal "Mac-11" style gun, ammunition and drugs were seized following a joint investigation by the Naugatuck Police Department and the statewide Narcotics Task Force earlier this year, according to officials.

Naugatuck detectives, along with state troopers from the task force, executed multiple search-and-seizure warrants within the borough on April 28, officials said on Thursday. Authorities seized an illegal "Mac-11" style firearm, specifically a Cobray, model M-11/9mm along with one large capacity magazine and 24 live rounds of 9mm ammunition, according to a news release.

The gun was determined to have been illegally possessed by the suspect and purchased illegally for cash. In addition, detectives seized a small amount of heroin and marijuana. Connecticut State Police Firearms Detection K-9 "Darlene" found the illegal firearm inside the suspect’s residence, according to officials.

“The investigation stemmed from a routine patrol call for service in which Naugatuck Officer Michael Deely began to piece together the initial information that culminated in this operation,” officials wrote in a news release. “Officer Deely obtained information from concerned citizens that they believed the accused was attempting to sell an illegal firearm, possibly a "Mac-11" style assault weapon.

“The seizure of this firearm is a result of the hard work of Naugatuck Police officers and detectives working with their partners of the Connecticut State Police Statewide Narcotics Task Force. Ultimately this investigation led not only to the arrest of a criminal possessing an illegal firearm, but also to the removal of a dangerous and illegal firearm from the streets of our community.”
