Information on the Closing of St. Hedwig and St. Mary Churches

Details about the closure of the two Naugatuck Roman Catholic churches were shared with parishioners of both parishes in the bulletin distributed at Masses this weekend.

Upcoming information and answers to questions that have been asked about the closure:

The last weekend Masses for both parishes will be June 25, 9AM at St. Mary, 10:30AM at St. Hedwig (Polish and English). There will be no Vigil Mass on June 24. The last week day Masses are Tuesday, 6PM June 27 at St. Mary, and then at 6PM on Thursday June 29 at St. Hedwig, both Polish and English. The intentions for all these Masses are for all living & deceased parishioners of St. Hedwig and St. Mary. After those Masses, the parishes are closed.

Contribution reports will be available in both parish offices in June. If you want one for your taxes next year, please let us know, we can mail and email them out. After the offices are closed, they will not be available.

A parishioner asked if they were automatically registered at St. Francis after closure, the answer is no. No one is compelled to go to any particular parish, and it is up to you to register. You are encouraged to consider your options and pick the parish that works for you.

The record books from both parishes will go to St. Francis. There is no reason to feel you must “pick up" your records; if you need proof of baptism, etc., the record books will be there. We can fill something out for you, but it is only valid for 6 months. If you are asked for a record after that, it will not be accepted; you will have to ask St. Francis’ office to look it up for you again.

The following is a simple accounting of St. Hedwig Church’s finances as of May 10, 2017. Bills and payroll will continue to be paid, and depending on future collections the cash on hand will be lower by the end of June.
Cash on hand: $34,735.00
Investments as of 3/31/17: $108,061.00
Total: $142,796.00
As I said for the St. Mary parishioners, the closure of both parishes leaves me with a heavy heart. I wish the outcome could have been different. However, we are people of great faith and great love, and those things are not a building, but gifts that we give and share with our brothers and sisters on this earth. Ostatnia Niedzielna Msza Św. w naszym kościele odbędzie się w niedzielę 25 czerwca o godzinie 10:30 rano, będzie to Msza w obu językach. 24 Czerwca NIE odbędzie się Msza wigilijna o 4pm. Ostatnia Msza Św. w tygodniu odbędzie się 29 czerwca, w uroczystość św. Piotr i Pawła, o godzinie 6pm. Obie msze sprawowane będą w intencji parafian. Raporty z ofiar do odliczeń podatkowych dostępne będą w czerwcu w kancelarii parafialnej.Rekord ksiąg parafialnych oraz wszelkie zasoby finansowe, przechodzą do parafii św. Franciszka, nie oznacza to jednak, że ktokolwiek z parafian automatycznie zostaje zarejestrowany do wyżej wymienionej parafii, niezależnie od wyboru, rejestracji do wybranej parafii należy dokonać osobiście.
Nie ma potrzeby pobierania certyfikatów przyjętych sakramentów, gdyż są one ważne do użytku tylko przez
6 miesięcy od daty wystawienia, zawsze dostępne będą, w razie potrzeby, w parafii św. Franciszka w Naugatuck.

My dear friends of St. Mary,
With a sad heart I write to you today on the subject of what many of you have requested about our finances. As you all know St. Mary which has been in existence since 1907 started by the perseverance of people who came to this country to start a new life. This church has grown and prospered and suffered many trials and tribulations and has endured for 110 years. I ask you my dear friends to take the tenancy of your faith and love of God that you have shone throughout the years for St. Mary. I ask you now to take this with you wherever you go. Our Lord and Savior has great plans for his people and will use you wherever you go.
