Jimmy Award Winners Announced

The National High School Musical Theatre Awards, called The Jimmy Awards, held their annual finals last night night at the Minskoff Theater in New York City.

The 2016 Jimmy Awards winners are Amina Faye from Blumenthal Performing Arts High School Musical Theater Awards in Charlotte, NC and Josh Strobl from The Jerry Herman Awards in Los Angeles, CA.

Amina Faye played Sarah in Ragtime and represented The Blumey Awards in Charlotte, NC. Her high school is the Central Academy of Technology and Arts. Mr. Strobl is from John Burroughs High School in Burbank, CA and played Link Larkin in Hairspray.

During the first act of the gala, there were four "brilliant" medleys featuring the nominated high school students, some celebrity hosts, and a roof shaking production number from 'One Your Feet.' At intermission, the finalists were announced via Twitter.

Act Two featured performances by the finalists followed by the awards ceremony.

The top high school actress and actor from the Connecticut High School Musical Theatre Awards did not compete in NYC this year because CHSMTA has withdrawn from the national competition. Outstanding Leading Actress for 2016 was Sydney Weiser from Greater Hartford Academy of Arts who played Maria in their production of 'West Side Story.' Outstanding Leading Actor was Michael Lepore from Trumbull High School who played Finch in 'How to Succeed...'
