Good afternoon,

Today is May 22 at 4:30pm, the count in Naugatuck is now at 350. Please note that yesterday we were also at 350. So, we have reached a milestone. Our first day with no new cases. This doesn't mean that we are out of the woods, but we are making progress. We are also seeing much more activity in Naugatuck, especially in our restaurants with the beginning of outdoor dining as a result of the governor's executive order.

The reopening of businesses brings more people together. Many people remain on edge. Our citizens in Naugatuck and throughout the country, do not agree on many issues associated with social distancing. We know two things; we need to stay healthy and we need to reopen the economy safely. These two goals do not have to conflict. Ultimately, it is a question of balance. It is not a war between people with differing views.

So, what do we do? We need to be smart. We need to be, Naugy smart. Make a plan that fits your specific requirements to remain safe and healthy be resilient, venture out where you feel comfortable, show compassion to everyone, especially to those who hold views that are opposite to your own. Remember, compassion is not a sign of weakness, but of strength.

Let's also remember that there will be a solemn Memorial Day ceremony, on the Green on Monday. We're trying to arrange a flyover and details will be announced shortly. Also, remember, when you're ringing the bells at 8pm, you're ringing them for those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
