Latest Naugatuck Coronavirus Updates
Here are the latest number of confirmed coronavirus cases and deaths involving Naugatuck residents, according to health officials.
NAUGATUCK, CT — The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Naugatuck has reached 361 and the number of deaths has risen to 28 and there are two additional probable deaths too, according to the latest Naugatuck Valley Health District update.
"(Wednesday), NVHD learned of three laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 associated death. All individuals were residents of nursing homes in Seymour (2) and Shelton (1). Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the individuals who have passed away due to complications related to COVID-19," the local health district reports.
For public health surveillance, laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 associated deaths are defined as patients who tested positive for COVID-19 around the time of death; this is not a determination of the cause of death, health officials said. The health district does not have further details including whether there may have been underlying health issues or other contributing factors, officials added.

On April 10, 2020, the State Department of Public Health started to include COVID-19 deaths that are not laboratory-confirmed in daily reporting. NVHD now reports on COVID-19 associated deaths including both a) persons who tested positive for COVID-19 around the time of death (laboratory-confirmed) and b) persons who were not tested for COVID-19 whose death certificate lists COVID-19 disease as a cause of death or as a significant condition contributing to deaths (probable) in Table 2.
