Long-Time Independent Pharmacy Abruptly Closes In Naugatuck

The business had been a staple in downtown for 50 years.

NAUGATUCK, CT — Ford Pharmacy and Medical Supply located at 2 Church St. abruptly closed this week, the Republican-American reports. Why did the independent pharmacy close this week?

The owner told the Rep-Am that the high cost of doing business combined with low reimbursement rates from insurance companies were the biggest issues. For example, fees have grown seven-fold in less than five years to $150,000.

Rite Aid will hire the displaced employees and has acquired the business' customer list, the Rep-Am reports.
