Man, 19, Charged In Shooting Of Naugatuck Woman: Hamden Police

The woman was shot in the chest when she tried to run away from the man during an argument in Hamden, according to police.

HAMDEN, CT β€” A 19-year-old New Haven resident is accused of shooting a woman in Hamden in June, according to police.

De-Saiti Ware was recently arrested on a warrant in connection with the shooting that happened June 9 in Hamden, according to Detective Sean Dolan.

Police responded to the area of Arch Street and Dix Street around 11 p.m. on the report of a man shooting at a woman. Officers learned that the gunshot victim, a 21-year-old Naugatuck resident, was confronted by Ware, who was an acquaintance of hers, according to Dolan.

Dolan said they were arguing and Ware shot her in the chest when she tried to run away from him. She was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital by a friend, according to Dolan.

Detective Jomo Crawford and Detective Mark Sheppard of the Major Crimes Unit conducted the investigation into the shooting and obtained an arrest warrant for Ware.

Ware, of Orchard Street, was arrested July 26 and charged with first-degree assault, illegal discharge of a firearm, second-degree breach of peace and violation of a pistol permit. He is being held in lieu of a $750,000 bond with a court date of Aug. 3, according to state judicial records.
