Man Armed With Knife Flees Into Woods, Taken To Hospital: Naugatuck PD
Police said officers enlisted a family member's help to persuade the man to exit the woods and he was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
NAUGATUCK, CT β A man armed with a knife who fled into the woods in Naugatuck late Wednesday afternoon was later taken to a hospital for evaluation, according to police.
In a news release, police said officers were called to the area of Krodel Road and Bosco Drive around 4:45 p.m. after receiving a report of a man "experiencing a mental health crisis" brandishing a knife.
The man then fled into a wooded area and it was unclear if he still possessed the weapon, police said.

Officers quickly established a perimeter and enlisted the help of a family member, who contacted the man by phone and successfully persuaded him to exit the woods and follow officers' commands, according to police.
The man was then taken to a local hospital for evaluation, police said. Middlebury police and Bethany EMS provided assistance.

"This incident required a significant deployment of police resources, including a K9 unit for tracking and a drone for its locating and overwatch capabilities," police said in a news release. "These resources were crucial for the successful resolution of the situation."
