NAUGATUCK, CT — A man armed with a knife was shot Thursday morning during a confrontation with Naugatuck police, according to the department.

In a news release posted to Facebook, police said officers were called to Baummer's Pond around 9:15 a.m. after receiving a report of a man armed with a knife.

Officers located the man in the area which led to a confrontation, during which two officers discharged their department-issued firearms, according to police.

Police said the unidentified man is receiving treatment at a local hospital as of Thursday morning and there is no threat to the public at this time.

The officers involved in the incident are also receiving medical attention and are safe, according to police. Access to Baummer's Pond is currently closed to the general public.

An investigation into this incident will be overseen by the Office of the Inspector General and CSP Central District Major Crime, police said.
