Man Assaulted Woman, Runs From Police: Naugatuck PD

The man was apprehended and arrested after running as soon as he saw officers, according to police.

NAUGATUCK, CT — A man is accused of running from police after assaulting a woman last week in Naugatuck, according to police.

Police responded around 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 13 to the area of Church Street by the municipal lot on the report of a man who was assaulting a woman.

Witnesses told police the man who assaulted the woman was walking away on Park Place, according to police.

Police said officers saw Anthony Martinoli begin running as soon as he saw them, but he was caught immediately after.

An investigation found that both Martinoli and the woman had been arguing, and the argument turned physical, according to police.

Police said the woman sustained several injuries and was evaluated at an area hospital.

Martinoli, 23, of Naugatuck, was arrested and charged with second-degree assault and interfering with an officer / resisting arrest. He was being held in lieu of a $25,000 bond with a court date of Aug. 30, according to state judicial records.
