Man Presses Knife To Victim's Throat: Naugatuck Police

The accused is being held in lieu of a $100,000 bond.

NAUGATUCK, CT β€” A Naugatuck man is accused of pressing a knife to a person's throat after an argument over bills between roommates escalated, police said.

On July 11 at 4:55 p.m., police responded to a Cherry Street residence for a disturbance between roommates, police said. During the incident, the victim said that Edward M. Wither, 59, started arguing with the victim over the bills, police said.

The accused started throwing things about the victim's bedroom, police said. Wither then pressed a knife to the victim's throat, in the presence of a witness, while he was on a 911 call, police said.

The accused then took the cellphone from the victim's hand and threw the cellphone across the room, police said. The victim then ran outside with the witness and waited for police, police said.

Wither was held in lieu of a $100,000 bond. He is charged with interfering with an emergency call, disorderly conduct, first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree threatening, third-degree criminal mischief, and criminal attempt at first-degree assault.
