Man In Stolen Car Engages Police In Pursuit: Naugatuck Police
The accused was initially held in lieu of bond.

NAUGATUCK, CT β A man who engaged Naugatuck police in a pursuit has been arrested on a warrant, police said. Erickson Amparo, 19, voluntarily surrendered on an outstanding arrest warrant at Naugatuck Police Department that stemmed from an October 9, 2018 incident, police said.
Shortly after midnight on that October 2018 date, Naugatuck Police Officer Brandon Hudson saw a vehicle with a headlight out on Meadow St. (Route 63) and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, police said.
The vehicle failed to yield and fled the area at a high rate of speed, police said. Officers began to check the downtown area of Naugatuck and a short time later discovered the vehicle abandoned with heavy damage from a collision on Old Firehouse Road, police said.

The operator had fled scene on foot prior to officersβ arrival. Through a subsequent investigation it was determined that the vehicle was stolen from Ansonia and that a witness had observed the vehicle collide with a sidewalk in the area prior to the operator abandoning the vehicle a short distance away, police said.
Officers developed leads and physical evidence from the scene. As a result, officers were able to identify, and then secure an arrest warrant for the accused for his involvement in the collision and the operation of the stolen vehicle, police said. The accused was held on bond pending his appearance at Waterbury Court.

He is charged with engaging police in pursuit, third-degree larceny, evading responsibility, and interfering with an officer.
