A note from Amare's mom, Carissa Roman:

This April will officially be one year since Amare's diagnosis and his birthday.

While there have been many ups and downs regarding side effects, he is ultimately doing ok. One of the main side effects to chemo is low blood counts and the need for blood transfusions. Since April, Amare has gotten well over 20 infusions of blood or platelets.

While the doctors and nurses are a huge part of keeping him going and surviving this, he honestly wouldn’t be here without blood donors. Something so simple is keeping hundreds of kids in the oncology clinic alive (never mind the million other reasons people need transfusions).

So this year, for his one year diagnosis and his birthday, he wants to ask for blood donations so he and all his friends that he made here (CCMC, Hartford) can keep playing.
