Mayor Hess Declares State of Emergency

Naugatuck, CT - Good afternoon. This is Pete Hess calling from the Naugatuck Emergency Operations Center.

At this time, there are no confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus in Naugatuck. We are nevertheless operating under the assumption that the virus is already here.

At 11 o'clock this morning, I declared a state of emergency in Naugatuck. The purpose of this action is to allow the borough to receive state and local funding to recover costs incurred as a result of the virus. This order is a formality and should not be interpreted by anyone in a manner to cause alarm. The borough Unified Command Team continues to meet daily.

The Town Hall is open on a limited basis. All departments continue to operate remotely or as otherwise required.

All parks and playgrounds have been closed, with the exception of Hop Brook Golf Course, the dog park and walking trails.

We are also working very closely with all three of our grocery stores. They continue to receive daily grocery shipments

Police, Fire and EMS continue to provide services on an uninterrupted basis. Continue to follow us on the town website and Facebook.

Superintendent Locke will be calling you later today to announce a distance learning plan that will be implemented on Monday, March 23. This plan will be similar to a virtual learning plan.

My personal advice to everyone is to think of the emergency like this: If you don’t know what to do, err on the side of being cautious and safe. Any problem created by being too cautious can be dealt with later.
