Good Afternoon,

Today is Friday October 23 at 4:00pm. I'm calling to bring everyone up to date as to COVID-19 and new ways in which we measure our status.

The intent of this call is to give you the best local information applicable just to Naugatuck. As of yesterday, the total cumulative count in Naugatuck is 506. This is the total number of cases from day one, until yesterday. This is no longer the yardstick by which we measure our progress. The new statistic that we will be watching is the bi-weekly case positivity rate. So, we're calling it the case rate, this rate measures the number of positive cases in Naugatuck per 100,000 people as calculated over a two-week period. The rate in Naugatuck is now 10.3, the state average is 11.

We now also have color ratings, which categorize the different levels and different times. Yellow is five to nine cases per 100,000, orange 10 to 15, red over 15. Right now, Naugatuck is orange.

So, what's the takeaway? Well, pretty simple, we all need to recognize the virus is here. It's spreading, we need to be more proactive, we need to do a better job, following the rules. We're also hearing about statewide phases, which control things like restaurant occupancy and the size of events. The entire state is in phase three. So right now, Naugatuck is classified as orange in phase three.

What should everyone be doing? Recognize your limitations, use common sense, follow the rules. You need to find a way to blend the guidelines into your daily life at work, and elsewhere. So be resilient, Be Naugy strong and Naugy smart.

Thank you

Pete Hess
