Meet the Magician, and Musician, Tyler Suarez

At the age of 12, he's on the path to great things

Twelve-year-old Tyler’s career started when he was a mere six-years-old. A toy magic kit that sat on the shelf of his closet caught his eye one day, and as they say, the rest was history. He became enchanted with all things magic, had some business cards made and was hired to do magic shows for youth camps, parties, and at the campground his family visits each summer.

Magic was actually his second career. At the age of four, he began to play the guitar, though admittedly not very well then. Guitar lessons every Tuesday for about the past eight years has transformed him into a young musician with a band called Punk Side. He plays electric and acoustical guitar, keyboard, harmonica, drums and he sings beautifully.  Influenced by Green Day and Operation Ivy, Tyler writes about five songs each week. He loves to play music anywhere, “as long as there’s a crowd and they’re loving it.”

What does it take? Practice. Tyler’s the only electric guitar player in the Cross Street Intermediate School’s band. Until the school discontinued the program Tyler was in the Special Art class, but now he goes to Prospect for art lessons.

In his free time, Tyler also plays baseball with Union City Little League, and in true Tyler-fashion, he received the sportsmanship award during fall ball last year.

Key to Awesomeness: “It never gets old,” Tyler says. He is magically mature, extremely polite, and undoubtedly leaves an impression on everyone he meets. And, yes, he can levitate. Not as good as Criss Angel, but he can. He’s also a fabulous big brother to his one-year-old brother, and he naturally gets straight As in school--without any magic acts.
