Police Search For Hit-And-Run Driver In Fatal Moped Crash: Authorities

WATERBURY, CT — A 27-year-old Waterbury man died after a hit-and-run crash involving a moped early Saturday morning, police said.

Waterbury police officers responded around 2:05 a.m. Saturday to the intersection of Meriden and Southmayd roads for a report of a serious crash. Officers found a moped lying in the roadway and located a man, who was later identified as Luis Santana, suffering from severe injuries, according to a news release from the Waterbury Police Department.

Santana, who police said was the operator of the moped, was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash. Sgt. Joseph Morais, public information officer for the Waterbury Police Department, told Patch that no suspects were in custody as of late Saturday night.

The fatal Saturday crash came just days after another serious collision involving a dirt bike in Waterbury. The dirt bike collided with an SUV at about 4:15 p.m. Wednesday and left an 18-year-old with serious, life-threatening injuries, police said.
