Naugatuck will begin its annual spring street sweeping program this month. Here's what residents need to know.
NAUGATUCK, CT — The Public Works Department announced Thursday that Naugatuck will begin its annual spring street sweeping program later this month.
According to a notice posted to the department's Facebook page, the spring street sweeping program is scheduled to begin April 13.
Crews will start on the west side of town and gradually move through various neighborhoods across the borough, however some sweeping may occur at select locations prior to the official start of the program, according to the notice.

All residents and merchants are encouraged to sweep any sand or dirt from their sidewalks into the gutter line before crews arrive, according to Public Works.
Residents are asked to avoid sweeping sand into piles, as sweepers are unable to collect them efficiently.

Litter, debris, and leaves should be collected separately and disposed of through regular trash or recycling, according to the notice.
To ensure complete and efficient street cleaning, residents are asked to move vehicles off the street during sweeping operations, according to Public Works.
The department also noted although the use of straight salt during winter plowing has reduced the amount of sand left behind, they are still required to sweep all borough streets and clean the catch basins.
